THREAT TO PEACE

PRESIDENT Trump is a threat to world peace. His decree recognising the Golan Heights, a part of Syria, as being Israeli territory is an affront to international law. It basically legitimises the invasion, takeover and annexation of sovereign land by anyone who has enough military might.

It bodes ill for any small nation in the world with powerful neighbours who covet their territory.

I hope that the Australian GovernIn ment expresses its displeasure with this decision, but I fear that it will follow suit in blind obedience.

ATTACK ON SENATOR

LISA Marshall (TC, 27/03) asks a very pertinent question regarding the attack on Senator Fraser Anning.

No matter what one thinks of this Senator, the fact remains that he is a federal Senator. The lack of action by the federal and state authorities, is shameful - and I believe, ideologically motivated result.

Where do they draw the line as far as assault method and weapon, and on whom will an attack draw a response?

Any attack on a federal or state politician should result in an immediate arrest. There should be no room for personal/ideological judgements by the authorities.

The perpetrators should be charged and face court. There, they will as usual, be dealt with very leniently anyway.

the UK, a person was sentenced to 28 days jail for the very same offence. Here, they get nothing but 1000s of likes on social media.

The same lack of action by the authorities seems to be the approach to lawlessness by activists. We are constantly seeing where “no arrests were made”, seems to be the end result of offences caused by these activists who now appear to be above the law.

Meanwhile law-abiding businesses are being attacked and financially affected.

COUNTRY MUSIC CLUB

ON DECEMBER 31, 2018 the Longyard Country Music Club ceased to exist.

All directions from the Office of Fair Training were carried out satisfactory and all conditions met. On January 30, 2019 cheques of $2015 were donated to Toowoomba Lifeflight and the Toowoomba section of the Royal Flying Doctor Service.

On behalf of those connected with the Longyard Club since its beginning in August 1997, I would like to say thank you to those who supported the club’s socials over the years and helped us raise funds to donate to may local charities and services.

WHAT A RIP-OFF

THE new yearly land valuations by the Department of Natural Resources are ridiculous.

Just another money-grabbing exercise by the government to fund their grandiose schemes like city deals and rural deals. Families living on the edge have not had a wage rise for years, yet government charges rise far in excess of the Consumer Price Index.

New land valuations, some as high as a 60 per cent increase, will mean “as it has in the past” another massive rates rise.

The councils will blame the state and the state will blame the Federal Government.

For how long can our governments spend billions of dollars on schemes to glorify their existence with little regard to the people they were elected to serve?

Politicians living in their mystical world need to be given a clear message in the upcoming elections. Wake up Australia.
