Money Talk out to break Nolan’s cup ‘jinx’

RACING: Toowoomba trainer Paul Nolan Jnr will have one more throw at the Warwick Credit Union Warwick Cup stumps tomorrow when he looks to break a 28-year Allman Park feature hoodoo.

Nolan is chasing a maiden success in his former hometown cup with in-form restricted class five-year-old Money Talk.

Money Talk tackles tomorrow’s 1500-metre assignment on the back of three unbeaten wins this campaign including his latest strong-finishing effort in a Doomben Benchmark 70 Handicap (1350m) on March 13.

“The Warwick Cup has been a real “jinx” race for me,” Nolan said yesterday.

“Being my former hometown I’ve been trying to win it for 28 years since 1991 and haven’t been able to do it.

“When I was beaten one year there with Secret Garden I just about gave up thinking it wasn’t meant to be.

“But Money Talk is in career best form, he’s really enjoying his racing and this race is there for him with Kenji (Yoshida) to ride who knows him well.

“It’s not going to be easy for him jumping from Class 4 level to open company and there are a couple of tough ones to beat.

“I thought Lindsay Hatch’s horse Grey Steyne was in pretty well at the weights and it’s also got a claim now.

“We’re just hoping from a good alley with a good weight, Money Talk can get the right run and we’ll see what happens from there.

“I just hope it’s a great day for the club (Warwick Turf Club).

“They’ve had so much bad luck with weather over the years it would be a shame to see them wiped out again on Saturday.”

■ COUNTRY racing tomorrow includes Roma Picnic Race Club’s annual meeting with five events, headed by the AGL Open Lady’s Bracelet (1200m) heading the card starting at 1.35pm.

■ NEXT week’s Weetwood Race Day activities begin winding up on Tuesday at Clifford Park when Toowoomba Turf Club’s the annual Breakfast With The Stars morning runs from 7am to 9am. A free breakfast is available to patrons.
