RUGBY LEAGUE: Toowoomba halfback Emily Young will don the famous green and red of the South Sydney Rabbitohs this Sunday.

The ex-Toowoomba Valleys Fillies star will make her debut for the Rabbitohs against the Canterbury Bulldogs in the Harvey Norman NSW Women’s Premiership.

The 23-year-old made the move south in the hope of one day making her NRLW dream come true one day.

“A friend of my aunty passed my number onto the coach (Danny Allende),” Young said.

“He (Allende) had seen me play before and I went down to Sydney just before Christmas to trial and have a look.

“I’d love to play in the NRLW one day and this gives me a chance to really test myself and hopefully make that happen one day.”

Despite the extra training and playing commitments Young said the biggest challenge she faced to date are off the field.

Holding down two jobs and studying online to be a teacher, Young’s move to the New South Wales capital has been a bit of “shock”.

“It’s the first time I have lived away from home,” she said.

“That’s been the hardest thing – off the field – it’s been a bit of a shock. “I am enjoying it, though. “I have an aunty and a cousin here though which has helped.”

Named in the starting 13 Young said she would look to play her natural game.

“I’m really looking forward to the game,” she said.

“I’m a bit nervous but also excited – my friends and family are flying down for it.

“I don’t want to be shy out there. I want to make sure I’m active, doing what the coach expects of me and giving my all for the team.”
