Prices on the rise after rain

ROMA

CATTLE numbers rose by 2389 head to 4602 head at the Roma Store Sale.

Cattle were drawn from a wide supply area and a larger panel of buyers was present and operating with increased restocker and feedlot activity. Steers dominated the yarding and the overall quality was mixed.

Prices continued to rise from last week under cloudy skies and with positive rainfall forecasts.

There were limited numbers of grown steers, grown heifers and bulls yarded.

Lightweigh­t yearling steers under 280kg to restockers rose by 32c/kg.

Lightweigh­t yearling heifers under 280kg to restockers rose by 38c/kg. Medium weight two score cows rose by 16c, while the medium weight three score cows rose by 25c/kg.

Calves made to 308.2c to average 255c/kg. Lightweigh­t yearling steers under 280kg to restockers sold to 318.2c to average 292c/kg.

Medium weight yearling steers under 330kg to restockers sold to 302.2c to average 291c/kg.

Medium weight yearling steers under 400kg to feed made to 294.2c, to average 286c/kg.

Lightweigh­t yearling heifers under 280kg to restockers made to 268.2c to average 239c/kg. Medium weight yearling heifers under 330kg to background or feed sold to 232.2c to average 227c/kg.

Light weight grown steers to feed sold to 286.2c to average 286c/kg. The largest sample of grown heifers sold to 210c to average 197.2c/kg.

Medium weight two score cows sold to 200.2c to average 167c, while the medium weight three score cows sold to 220.2c, to average 212c/kg. Heavy weight three score cows made to 223.2c, to average 218c/kg.

WARWICK

A LARGER number of cattle came forward with supply increasing by 259 head to 968 head. A fair panel of buyers was present and operating, and prices generally improved across a number of classes.

Lightweigh­t yearling steers to restockers averaged 20c dearer, and medium and heavy weight yearling steers to feed averaged 12c to 20c/kg better. Calves and lightweigh­t yearling heifers went against this trend, however medium and heavy weight yearling heifers lifted in price by 12c to 20c/kg. All classes of cows sold to a dearer trend with plain condition cows 12c to 23c/kg better and good cows averaged a few cents dearer.

Steer calves returning to the paddock made to 248.2c to average 232c, and heifer calves mostly sold around 164c/kg. A small selection of vealer heifers averaged 190c, with a handful to the trade reaching 258.2c/kg. Lightweigh­t yearling steers sold to restockers at an average of 247c with the occasional pen to 290.2c and lesser quality lines averaged 176c/kg. Medium weight yearling steers to feed averaged 272c and made to 284.2c, and heavy weight yearling steers to feed averaged 272c and made to 278.2c/kg.

A small sample of heavy weight yearling steers to the trade made to 287.2c to average 275c/kg. Lightweigh­t yearling heifers averaged 148c and made to 176.2c/kg. Medium weight yearling heifers to feed averaged 200c and made to 230c/kg. A short supply of heavy weight yearling heifers to the trade averaged close to 270c and made to 284.2c/kg.

A couple of bullocks made to 293.2c, and the occasional full mouth bullock to 232.2c/kg. Poor condition cows to restockers averaged 156c and made to 162.2c/kg. Medium weight 2 score cows averaged 185c and made to 199.2c/kg. Good heavy cows made to the occasional 246.2c with most close to 230c/kg. Heavy bulls made to 227.2c/kg.

TOOWOOMBA

THERE was a small increase in supply to 381 head, and young cattle were in the largest numbers, along with a small number of heavy grown steers and bullocks, and a mixed quality line up of cows. The usual panel of buyers was present and operating.

Light weight yearling steers returned to the paddock 7c/kg better, and medium and heavy weight yearling steers to feed sold to a dearer trend. Light weight yearling heifers to the trade and restockers lifted in price by 11c/kg and more in places. Cows sold to a mixed trend, with light condition cows to restockers 10c/kg dearer, however the better end of the cows found it difficult to maintain the large improvemen­ts of the previous sale.

Steer calves returned to the paddock at an average of 258c and made to 267.2c, as heifer calves averaged 196c/kg. A few vealer heifers averaged 211c and made to 219.2c/kg. Light weight yearling steers sold to restockers at an average of 251c, with sales to 280.2c, and poor quality lines averaged 185c/kg. A small sample of medium weight yearling steers to feed averaged 259c and made to 274.2c, as heavy weights to feed averaged 265c/kg.

The occasional very heavy B muscle yearling steer sold to the trade at 309.2c, with a few others close to 280c/kg.

Light weight yearling heifers primarily sold in the mid to high 180c range, with some to 209.2c/kg.

Medium weight yearling heifers to the trade averaged 220c/kg.

A few certified grain fed heavy weight yearling heifers averaged 244c, with other sales to 270c/kg.

A small selection of heavy grown steers sold to the wholesale meat trade at 279.2c, and a few bullocks to export processors made to 260.2c/kg. Poor condition cows to restockers averaged 136c, and medium weight two scores to processors averaged 171c/kg. Good heavy cows made to 225.2c to average 218c/kg. Heavy bulls made to 244.2c/kg.

DALBY

NUMBERS increased by close to 400 head to 5027 at Dalby and included in the line-up was a large run of 1600 vendor-bred heifers.

A large panel of buyers was present and operating in a generally dearer market.

Medium weight yearling steers to feed averaged 10c better and heavy weight yearling steers lifted in price by 20c/kg.

Medium weight yearling heifers to feed were in demand to average 35c/kg better. Cows also lifter in price, with gains from 20c to 29c/kg.

C2 yearling steers to feed sold from 256.2c to 285.2c, to average 282.5c, up 22c/kg. C2 yearling heifers to feed made from 220.2c to 273.2c, averaging 252.4c to be 35c/kg better.

C3 grown steers made from 238.2c to 244.2, averaging 241.2c to be 1c/kg cheaper than the previous week. C4 grown heifers received from 240c to 266.2c, averaging 255.7c/kg. C4 manufactur­ing steers sold from 244.2c to 248.2c, averaging 246.8c/kg.

D4 cows made from 210c to 253.2c, averaging 237.5c to be 20c/kg dearer this week. C3 bulls made from 219.2c to 255c, averaging 240.1c, representi­ng an increase of 4c/kg.
