Our Deb will be missed

-

BYE Deb Mahoney (TC, 13/7) and all the very best. We’ll miss you, that’s for sure.

Always that pleasant smile and so courteous and reliable. It is for sure that it is with a tinge of sadness that we see you go, hopefully to better things.

One consolation, you leave a good team to carry on. I’ve used the front counter of The Chronicle almost weekly for the past 40 years and when you came along, from memory in the old office in Ruthven St, you brought that smile and always that courtesy, something that is very sadly missing in many city centre businesses staff (and bosses too).

As a charity fund raiser, I find the city centre sadly lacking in attitude and service too often.

Over 40 years and thousands of ads, I’ve never had one to be corrected, which would be a record of some kind. Only one letter was mucked up entirely and that happened out in the back room.

Bye Deb, and God bless.

ONLINE POLLS

HOW people vote in The Chronicle online poll always interests me. If we were told how many voted it would be even more meaningful. Today’s (TC, 14/7) shows that a small majority of voters (55 -45%) do not think there should be laws to protect workers’ rights to express their faith.

How many of those who voted “no” had read the letters in Saturday’s The Chronicle?

To reiterate: Peter Knobel quoted a well-known statement from a German pastor in Hitler’s day. “First they came for the socialists and I did nothing because I was not a socialist. Then they came for the trade unionists and I said nothing because I was not a trade unionist. Then they came for the Jews. I said nothing for I was not a Jew. Now they’ve come for me - and there is no one left to speak for me.”

Be sure, what goes around comes around.

If you only support freedom of speech for those who agree with you, will you be happy if someone who disagrees with you dictates to you what you are allowed to say/believe?

USING DRUGS

IF YOU use mind altering illegal or addictive drugs, you are aiding and abetting the enemy, dumbing down yourself and damaging not just yourself but also your family and your country.

If you sell or give any illicit substances, you are a traitor and a criminal prepared to profit and gain while destroying others.

You are the enemy of mankind, and of this and many other nations. You are a pawn in a power struggle you probably do not understand, and probably never will.

You are a fool and your own worst enemy.

Ultimately, you will have to change your ways or collectively you people will destroy us, our civilisation and way of life. It happened in China more than 100 years ago. Wake up and live. PERRY J.B. JEWELL, Grantham

VEGAN MOVEMENT

AN interesting comment from the Labor Green vegan movement recently. They said that “The violence in our society starts when we think some creatures are less than us.”

Indeed, some of the greatest vegans have also been people of some faith or doctrine. In India there are many Hindus who adopt a vegan lifestyle.

Yet the Labor Green vegan movement thinks all Indians are less than them which is why they don’t want Adani to export coal to provide Indian households with basic energy needs.

Indeed the vegan movement in their pious mindset looks down on everyone else who decides to not adopt their lifestyle choices. Much the same as Hindus look down on other religions.

The Labor green vegan movement is not about equality for all in Australia. It is about “lording” it all over us. The sooner the not-for-profit Farm Animal Rescue company has to pay tax, the better.

The ACNC should be doing some serious reviews of not-for-profit organisations that have the sole intention of disrupting people going about the daily lawful business. Farm Animal Rescue supports “violent confrontations” in the community - without it, they don’t get a headline.
