Patience pays off as Supervisor prepares for Muster Cup lead-up

Patience is a virtue that Harry Richardson swears by.

The Toowoomba trainer has had to show a lot of it with Supervisor, and now he is starting to reap the rewards.

The gelding heads into today’s meeting at Gatton looking to secure his seventh career win from his 29th start, an impressive feat considering it took until his 15th run to break his maiden.

But it is the waiting game that Richardson believes has helped the five-year-old to find his footing on the track, and what makes him a leading player in today’s feature event, the Class 4 Handicap (1400m).

“He took a long time to develop. He was a bit immature in the head at the start of his career and a bit of a wayward horse,” Richardson said.

“If you haven’t got time and patience (in racing), you’ll never get there.

“Over the last half-dozen runs he’s really starting to put things together. Since putting them together he’s become very honest. He’s a tough little horse.”

Supervisor steps back to his favoured distance of 1400m today, where he was won three of his four starts.

“He likes 1400m and he likes a tight track like Gatton. He gets around the corners well and really seems to make ground,” Richardon said.

“He’ll be in the first two or three probably, and there’s enough pace for him to take a seat, and hopefully he might be a bit sharp for them.”

Supervisor’s main target this preparation is on August 17, where Richardson will look to feature in the $24,000 Gympie Muster Cup.

Despite having a stable of runners that you could count on one hand, Richardson tasted further success at the weekend with Smokey Diamond, who scored at Doomben.

Richardson said the gelding, who has recorded consecutive victories, will look to run at next Wednesday’s meeting at Doomben before a spell is on the cards.
