Accused on strict bail conditions

‘Reluctant’ magistrate grants bail

A NEWTOWN woman charged with a string of drugrelated matters has been granted bail on the most stringent conditions.

Any breach of any of the conditions would risk Jordan Maree Skrinjar’s bail being revoked and the 21-year-old being returned to custody.

Police had objected to her bail application, but after hearing arguments from police prosecutor Rowan BrewsterWebb and defence solicitor Nathan Bouchier, Magistrate Graham Lee said he would grant bail.

“I’m of the view, with some reluctance, to grant bail,” Mr Lee said.

Skrinjar had been charged with 24 matters in May and handed a notice to appear in Toowoomba Magistrates Court on June 24 but she had failed to front court.

She was arrested on Wednesday and spent the night in the watch house before appearing in court to plead guilty to the charge for which she was fined $300.

She had also been charged with further drug-related matters, placing her in a “show cause” situation in that she had to show cause why she should be released on bail when it was alleged she had committed further offences while on bail.

Skrinjar’s boyfriend and coaccused will be appear in the same court today on similar charges.

Mr Bouchier argued his client was young and had no previous drug related convictions.

Mr Lee granted bail on strict conditions including Skrinjar abiding by a nightly curfew, reporting to police three times a week, having no contact at all with her co-accused, attend the Alcohol and Other Drugs Service within seven days and provide written confirmation to police of her attendance at AODS, and submit to, and pay for, random drug testing as directed by police.

Her case was adjourned to August 8.
