Southwest Queensland food and wine on festival menu

THIS year’s Regional Flavours event will highlight Queensland’s vibrant food culture and showcase more than 80 stallholde­rs from 17 different regions including renowned producers, artisans, graziers and chefs from across the state.

Regional Flavours will be held from July 20–21 at the South Bank Parklands in Brisbane. The following 35 producers will represent Southwest Queensland:

RIVERSAND WINES – ST GEORGE

David and Alison Blacket developed the vineyard to grow wine and table grapes.

NIVE BEEF – AUGATHELLA

A family operation that produces four flavours of jerky products from grass-fed angus and charolais cattle.

2ND 2 NONE WINES – KINGSTHORP­E

The property, Wedgetail Ridge, has been in Suzanne Nation’s family for almost 100 years. The vineyard was planted in 1999, the winery built in 2002, and in 2004 the cellar door was opened.

BUNNYCONNE­LLEN OLIVE GROVE – CROWS NEST

This olive grove and winery is owned by Ninian and Ann Stewart-Moore, who have a passion for the paddock-toplate story.

JIM’S JERKY – TOOWOOMBA

Jim’s Jerky is a family business owned by Jim Tanner. As a cattle farmer, Jim knows good quality cattle produce good quality steak, which is what is used to make their award-winning jerky.

HOLLAND WINES – CROWS NEST

Owned by Bob and Robyn Holland, their family has operated the vineyard for 15 years, producing their first vintage in 2005.

9DORF FARMS – LOCKYER VALLEY

A fourth-generation family owned business since 1918, their primary production enterprise consists of pasture-raised poultry, aquacultur­e, pasture-raised beef and pork, fodder production, and farm tours.

AWASSI CHEESERY – GRANTHAM

All cheeses are handmade on farm from 100 per cent sheep’s milk.

BAUER’S ORGANIC FARM – LOCKYER VALLEY

Made up of two certified organic properties in the Mount Sylvia and Upper Tenthill areas. Rob Bauer is one of the pioneers of the organic industry, having started growing organicall­y more than 35 years ago.

SEATONFIRE CHILL CHOCOLATE – LOCKYER VALLEY

The brainchild of motherand-son team Lynne SeatonAnde­rson and Jason O’Connor. As well as being a master chocolatie­r, Lynne is in charge of growing and hand picking quality chillies for their products. Jason is the creative side of the team.

EMMO’S FINE FOODS – LOCKYER VALLEY

Produces a range of farmhouse goat and cow’s dairy products including cheeses, gelato and sorbet.

JUST GERANIUMS – LOCKYER VALLEY

Produces ivy, zonal and scented geranium plants, selling them at the Lockyer Valley/Ipswich and Toowoomba markets.

SCHULTE’S – PLAINLAND

Establishe­d in 1952, Peter and Sylvia Schulte offer a paddock-to-plate service culminatin­g in the highest quality fresh red meat, pork and lamb products.

BUNYA RED FARM – SOUTH BURNETT

Allan and Mandy Evans have 64.75 hectares, which they use for grazing cattle, a peanuts and corn rotation, alpacas, and producing their famous capers and caperberri­es.

CHINCHILLI – KINGAROY

A grower, processor, and seed supplier of chillies and

chilli products. They also have more than 1000 olive trees for the production of olive oil.

CLOVELY ESTATE – MOFFATDALE

Owned by Brett Heading and Susan Mercer, their vineyards and olive groves are on land that has been in the family for more than a century.

CRANE WINES – KINGAROY

The very first winery to open its doors in the South Burnett, Crane Wine’s is a family owned, boutique winery run by Bernie and Judy Cooper.

KINGSLEY GROVE – GOODGER

Founded by the Berry family in 1998, the vineyard is run by Michael and Patricia Berry, with the help of their son Simon, his wife Jo, and their daughters Grace and Polly.

THE PEANUT VAN – KINGAROY

Celebratin­g its 50th anniversar­y this year, the Kingaroy Peanut Van is owned by Rob and Christine Patch. The Peanut Van provides a wide range of flavoured peanut products.

THE SAUCE MAN – MAIDENWELL

Created in 2015 and making 230 products including table sauces and condiments, pasta sauces, slow cooker sauces and marinades, chutneys, relishes and pickles.

NUOVA SCUOLA WINES – SOUTH BURNETT

Owners Sarah Boyce and Stefano Radici combine more than 10 years each of globetrott­ing winemaking experience, their Italian and Australian background­s, and a huge love of wine, to produce exceptiona­l new wines.

BALLANDEAN ESTATE – BALLANDEAN

The Puglisi family have been making wine at their Granite Belt winery since 1932. Ballandean Estate blends the history of five generation­s with modern wine-making methods that results in a remarkable wine experience.

BARAMBAH ORGANICS – GOONDIWIND­I

Owned by Ian and Jane Campbell, produces fresh milk at its two dairy farms.

CASLEY MOUNT HUTTON WINERY – STANTHORPE

A family owned and operated winery, owners Grant and Sonya Casley planted the vineyard in 1996 and opened the cellar door in 2001. Today, the winery is home to more than 16,000 vines.

GRANITE RIDGE – BALLANDEAN

Owned by Dennis and Juliane Ferguson, produces true boutique, hand-crafted wines.

RIDGEMILL ESTATE – SEVERNLEA

Martin Cooper bought Ridgemill Estate winery in 2004, and runs it with his wife Michelle Feenan. Varietals under vine include Australian favourites such as riesling, chardonnay, cabernet sauvignon, cabernet franc, merlot, malbec and shiraz.

TWISTED GUM WINES – BALLANDEAN

Twisted Gum winery is Tim and Michelle Coelli’s home, business and passion. The single vineyard, dry grown Granite Belt winery grows six varieties of grapes.

HIDDEN CREEK – BALLANDEAN

Managed and run by husband-and-wife team Andy and Leanne Williams. Andy is an award-winning winemaker and Leanne creates cafe meals that are matched with their wines.

JUST RED WINES BALLANDEAN

A boutique vineyard producing premium red wine, owners Tony and Julia Hassall have been making wine together with their son Michael since 1993.

LIRAH VINEGAR – STANTHORPE

Ian and Robyn Henderson have grown their business from humble beginnings in 2003 to become Australia’s leading artisan vinegar producer.

PYRAMIDS ROAD – GIRRAWEEN

A small vineyard, winery and cellar door focusing on producing handmade quality wines in the hills of Girraween National Park. Founders Warren and Sue Smith handplante­d the vineyard in 1999.

ROBERT CHANNON WINES – STANTHORPE

A highly coveted Stanthorpe winery, owned by Robert and Peggy Channon, particular­ly known for their award-winning verdelho and chardonnay.

THE TRUFFLE DISCOVERY CENTRE – STANTHORPE

This business unearths the secrets behind truffles with guided tours, informatio­n, product tastings, a gourmet product range, interactiv­e exhibits and Australia’s only year-round truffle dog hunt.

The main attraction at the Discovery Centre is the rare French Black Périgord Truffle.

SYMPHONY HILL WINES – BALLANDEAN

A family-owned boutique winery. Their wines have been served to esteemed dignitarie­s including Prince William and Princess Kate, President Barack Obama, and G20 leaders in Brisbane.

VIVIENNE’S COTTAGE SPICE SHOP – STANTHORPE

A boutique business making homemade curry spices and award-winning chutneys and jams from local ingredient­s.
