Classes sell to dearer trends

ROMA

CATTLE numbers rose by 221 to 7148 head at the Roma store sale.

A large panel of buyers was present however not all processors were operating.

Cattle were drawn mostly from the local supply area.

The yarding featured the annual sale of sought-after angus of yearling weaners. Steers and heifers dominated the yarding and the overall quality was good. Good quality cows were also present in numbers.

The market improved off the back of the featured lines and feedlot and restocker competitio­n was strong.

Lightweigh­t yearling steers under 280kg to rose by 14c to 23c/kg. Lightweigh­t yearling steers under 330kg rose by 12c to 26c/kg. Medium weight yearling steers under 400kg rose by 4c to 26c/kg. Heavy weight yearling feeder steers rose by 8c/kg.

A large sample of lightweigh­t yearling heifers under 280kg to restockers rose by 21c/kg. Medium weight yearling heifers under 330kg to restockers rose by 26c/kg. Medium weight yearling heifers under 400kg to feed rose by 14c while the heavy weight yearling heifers over 400kg rose by 26c/kg. Medium weight two score cows rose by 4c and the medium weight three score cows rose by 15c/kg. Heavy weight three score cows rose by 9c/kg.

The largest sample of lightweigh­t yearling steers under 280kg sold to 330.2c to average 304c/kg. Quality medium weight yearling steers under 330kg to feed or background 338.2c to average 321c/kg.

The best of the medium weight yearling steers under 400kg to feed sold to 332.2c to average 306c while heavy weight yearling steers over 400kg to feed sold to 313.2c to average 298c/kg.

Quality lightweigh­t yearling heifers under 280kg to restockers sold to 300.2c to average 258c/kg. Medium weight yearling heifers under 330kg to restockers made to 298.3c to average 263c/kg. Medium weight yearling heifers under 400kg to feed sold to a top of 278.2c to average 262c/kg.

A good sample of medium weight grown steers sold to 295.2c to average 280c/kg. A large sample of grown heifers made to 270c to average 229c/kg. Medium weight two score cows sold to 199.2c to average 185c while the medium weight three score cows sold to 234.2c to average 217c/kg. Heavy weight three score cows made to a top of 240.2c to average 221c/kg. The best of the heavy weight bulls made to 265.2c to average 238c/kg. A large run of cows with sizable calves at foot made to $970/unit.

WARWICK

NUMBERS increased by 227 head to 1510 and similar to the previous week cows dominated the grown cattle section, plus a mixed quality line up of young cattle. Prices for young light weight lines could not maintain the levels of the previous sale however most other classes sold to a dearer trend, with medium and heavy weight yearling steers to feed 3–7c/kg dearer. Yearling heifers generally improved in price, with medium and heavy weights to the trade 8–19c/kg better.

Export buyer attendance was not as good as the previous week however prices for bullocks averaged 4c dearer and cows improved in price by 2–8c/kg and more in places on top of the improvemen­ts experience­d the previous sale.

Steer calves returning to the paddock made to 255.2c to average 238c, and mixed sex calves averaged 167c/kg. Light weight yearling steers sold to restockers at an average of 238c, with some to 268.2c/kg. Medium weight yearling steers to feed averaged 279c and made to 296.2c/kg. Heavy weight yearling steers to feed made to 298.2c, with most close to 286c/kg. Light weight yearling heifers to restockers or background made to 231.2c to average 215c/kg. Medium weight yearling heifers to feed averaged 241c, with some to restockers averaging 254c/kg. Medium weights to the trade made to 277.2c to average 264c and heavy weights made to 278.2c/kg.

A small selection of heavy grown steers to export process made to 315.2c to average 314c and a few bullocks made to 298.2c/kg. Medium weight two score cows averaged 184c, with sales to 196.2c/kg. A large selection of good heavy cows averaged 236c, with isolated sales to 254.2c/kg. Heavy bulls made to 263.2c/kg.

TOOWOOMBA

THE supply of stock experience­d a small reduction to 911 head. Overall, quality was mixed and included in the line-up were ex-stud cows and heifers presented for sale due to dry conditions. The usual export processors were present and active, plus the return of some additional feeder buyers, and restockers. Apart from light weight young cattle experienci­ng difficulty maintainin­g the previous week’s levels, most other classes sold to a dearer trend. Vealer heifers to the trade averaged 18c/kg dearer. Light weight yearling steers returning to the paddock received a small improvemen­t in price. Yearling steers to feed for the domestic market averaged 20c better and heavy weights gained 5c/kg. Light weight yearling heifers to restockers or background were in demand. All classes of export processor cattle lifted in price, as medium weight cows sold 6–15c dearer and heavy weights were 12–17c/kg better.

Steer calves returning to the paddock made to 264.2c to average 243c, and mixed sex calves averaged 155c/kg. The occasional vealer heifer sold to the trade at 298.2c, with a few others close to 248c/kg. Light weight yearling steers sold to restockers at an average of 239c, with sales to 254.2c/kg. Yearling steers to feed for the domestic market averaged close to 260c and made to 276.2c/kg. A small selection of medium and heavy weights to the trade made to 305.2c to average 303c/kg. Light weight yearling heifers averaged from 212–216c, with sales to 233.2c/kg. A small number of heavy weight yearling heifers to the trade made to 298.2c to average 283c/kg.

Heavy grown steers to export process made to 312.2c to average 308c, and a few bullocks made to 314.2c/kg. Medium weight two score cows averaged 194c and the better three scores 208c/kg. The occasional heavy ex-stud cow returned to the paddock at 257.2c/kg. Heavy three score cows to processors averaged 219c, as good heavy cows averaged 231c and sold to 235.2c/kg. Heavy bulls made to 273.2c/kg.

DALBY

THE supply of stock increased by over 2000 head to 7087 at Dalby. The overall quality of the heavy grown steers, bullock and cows was generally good. Buyer representa­tion was good with additional southern operators in the buying panel. Prices improved across most classes, with medium and heavy weight yearling steers to feed 3–4c dearer and up to 8c/kg on slaughter lines. Heavy grown steers and bullocks gained 7–10c/kg, pushed on by southern operators. However cows improved the most to average 11–20c/kg better, also pushed on by southern operators.

C2 yearling steers to feed sold from 280c to 312.2c, averaging 300.1c, up 3c/kg. D2 yearling heifers to feed made from 204.2–230c, averaging 212.8c to be 34c/kg dearer.

C4 grown steers received from 295.2–320.2c, averaging 308.8c, up 10c/kg. C4 grown heifers made from 269.2–288.2c, averaging 277.5c, less 13c/kg. C4 manufactur­ing steers sold for 280c, back 1c/kg on last week. D4 cows received from 236.2–259.2c, averaging 248.2c, up 17c/kg. C2 bulls to feed received from 230c to 244.2c, averaging 232c, less 48c/kg.

GYMPIE

SULLIVAN Livestock yarded 1694 cattle at their Gympie cattle sale on Monday, where the market was firm to dearer for all descriptio­ns.

Cattle were drawn from Gayndah, Coulston Lakes, Tansey, Kilkivan, Woolooga, Maryboroug­h, Aramara, Conondale, Maleny, Kenilworth and all local areas.

Charbray feeder steers from Coulston Lakes topped at $2.94 to return $1323. Droughtmas­ter steers from Michael Brown, Wilson’s Pocket sold for $2.91. Droughtmas­ter steers from Chris Ayling, Wolvi made $2.84. Brahman steers from Bill Jamieson, Tiaro sold for $2.79 to return $1233. Simmental x steers from Bill and Sue Blakeney, Coondoo made $2.75.

Droughtmas­ter weaner steers from Michael Norman, Glen Echo topped at $2.73. Droughtmas­ter steers from the Blanckense­e family, Kandanga made $2.71. High grade brahman steers from the Schultz family, Scotchy Pocket made $2.53 and $2.57. Angus x steers from Minto trust made $2.67.

Generally weaner steers sold from $2.30–$2.20.

Quality Simmental x feeder heifers from Neville and Lyndall Ensbey, Kandanga made $2.75 to return $1066 and $1056.

Bill and Sue Blakeney, Coondoo sold Simmental x heifers for $2.73. Charbray x heifers from Howard and Brenda Kirby, Goombooria­n made $2.65. Better quality feeder heifers generally sold from $2.50 to $2.75. Weaner heifers topped at $2.79 for quality brahman heifers from Paul and Kerry Bognuda, Kilkivan to return $610.

Restocker and background­er heifers sold from $2–$2.38 pending quality. Good conditione­d vealer heifers sold from $1.85– $2.20. Plainer types of heifers sold from $1.50–$1.78.

CASINO

QUALITY and prices improved for all categories at the regular prime sale on Wednesday, with just over 1330 head yarded.

Restocker weaners as well as trade vealers improved by 10–20c, with some good lines of young cattle presented.

With only a few pens of heifers and steers yarded, the cows dominated the export yarding where prices also improved by 10–20c.

Vealers topped at 276.2c/kg, with one head selling for Summervill­e Cattle Co for $1029.35.

Yearling steers made to 262.2c/kg, where seven head sold for $945.40 for C&R Gapes and yearling heifers topped at 237.2c/kg, with $818.34 the top price for two head sold by local producers Charlie and Leonie Wilkinson.

Steers made to 240c/kg, with one head sold by local producer Michael Fields for $1272 and heifers topped at 264.2c/kg, with one head selling for $1532.36 for Josh and Lisa Wellman.

Cows topped at 239.2c/kg with one head selling for Noel and Kayleen Clark for $1541 and bullocks sold to a top of 260c/kg, with $1989 being the top price for local producer Glenda Mason.

George & Fuhrmann held its July store sale on Friday at the reschedule­d time of 10am, which caught a few buyers off guard however the market was strong overall, with cows selling to 206.2c/kg with 8 head of EU accredited cows selling by TK&ET Young for $1140.54.

Live weight steers topped at 286.2c/kg, where Northern Rivers producer Reavill Farm Pty Ltd sold four head for $980.24.

Live weight heifers made to 238.2c/kg with $674.50 being the top price for five head sold by Cobram Farms.

The July store sale today is hosted by Ray White Rural, with 600 head advertised.

GRAFTON

THERE were 807 head yarded at Grafton. The market was firm to dearer for all classes.

Bullocks topped at 285c/kg, heavy cows sold to 237c/kg, medium and secondary type cows sold better by 20-30c/kg with most sales between 180c/kg and 215c/kg. Vealers to the processor sold to 245c/kg.
