TWO University of Southern Queensland artists have been shortlisted in the Queensland Regional Art Awards (QRAA), the annual exhibition for established and emerging artists living in regional and remote Queensland.

Wanderlust: The Touring Exhibition of the 2018 Queensland Regional Art Awards is Flying Arts Alliance’s annual exhibition and major prize.

The touring exhibition had its official launch at the Waltzing Matilda Centre at Winton on Saturday.

Abramo Papp’s painting Marina Reflections 3 and Miles Allen’s mixed media work Old for New, both from USQ, were shortlisted from 170 entries to two of 26 artworks on tour which will travel to Brisbane, Somerset, Winton, Goondiwindi, Chinchilla, Toowoomba (USQ Art Gallery) and Ingham.

Mr Papp is a former architect and current doctoral student in the School of Arts at USQ exploring the teaching of colour, while Mr Allen is a USQ Alumni who obtained his Graduate Diploma in Educational Administration in 1992.

USQ Associate Professor in Arts Education Margaret Baguley said it was a significant opportunity for the artists to be part of the prestigious exhibition touring the state.

“It highlights the amazing artistic talent pool from regional areas and the University of Southern Queensland,” Associate Professor Baguley said.

“It is also a wonderful chance for the artists to gain exposure and enhance their reputation in the artistic community.”
