Mills Precinct markets set to return

-

MONTHS after their sudden closure, a new market will return to the Mills Precinct from next weekend.

Samantha Sweeney was a vendor at the former Toowoomba Markets before they closed at the start of July.

Now, she’s taken on the task of organising The Makers Market Toowoomba, which will launch at the Mills Precinct next Sunday, August 25.

Mrs Sweeney said a lot of vendors couldn’t do Saturday markets.

“So a lot of vendors, including myself, thought we needed a bigger Sunday market - to bring back what we had and make it bigger and better,” she said.

“The response has been absolutely fantastic - a lot of locals have jumped straight in and they’ve been such a big help as well.

“I’ve never done anything like this, but the rally of people behind me for it has been awesome.” Next Sunday’s grand opening will be packed with vendors, as well as offering a kids corner with free face painting, free balloon animals, and a spot for parents to sit and relax.

Stallholder offerings will range from kids clothing to pop culture earrings, beauty products, handmade clothes, homewares, bags, and more, as well as food and coffee vendors.

Proceeds from a raffle on the day will go to Emerge Cafe, an organisation that helps Toowoomba youth at risk of homelessness.

“We’re looking at running (the markets) on the second and fourth Sunday of every month, with the exception of Carnival of Flowers,” Mrs Sweeney said.

The markets will run at Blank Space from 8am to 1pm on Sunday, August 25.

Kids activities will run from 8-10am.
