MALAISE IN COUNCIL

-

THE lead article in a recent The

Chronicle about the TRC’s negative reaction to a well presented and most necessary low-cost housing initiative submitted by Brodribb Aged Care is indicative of the malaise that infects our local council.

There is no visible structure to their decisions and policy making, as recent court case decisions against yhr council have indicated.

The TRC’s modus operandi seems to be based on whims and confusion not facts.

Brodribb is a not-for-profit leader in our community with 120 years of measurable experience, vastly more than the TRC’s relatively recent history. What Brodribb proposes is a most necessary initiative for our community where homelessness is a growing need and disgrace, something an efwho fective council would have as a high priority.

According to the story, TRC’s reasoning is based on the heritage merit of a derelict, overgrown, rat-infested hovel that should have been removed long ago.

The only conclusion that the writer can come to is that the TRC is anti worthwhile development.

Several of their recent decisions have ended up in wasteful court actions by disgruntled local businesses/ rate payers that beggar belief.

Our elected representatives must have their heads in the sand if they cannot read the signs of the nuisance the council is providing to good governance and the dangerous irrelevance of most of their inconsistent policies.

Hopefully, the council elections next year will see a clean out - it is well overdue.
