10 THINGS TO DO THIS WEEKEND
1. CROWS NEST DAY
WHEN: Today, 11am-7.30pm WHERE: Centenary Park, Crows Nest CROWS Nest Day starts at 11am with the parade, followed by children’s rides, laser skirmish all day, a pie eating competition, the annual worm races and a hay stacking competition. Come along and enjoy the fun, with music and then fireworks to end the day.
2. TOOWOOMBA ARTISAN MARKETS
WHEN: Today, 8am-1pm
WHERE: Charred Restaurant, Margaret St
Find handmade, quality, unique crafts, jewellery, artworks and decor at the first Toowoomba Artisan Markets. Grab a delicious breakfast and coffee while you browse the boutique stalls.
3. IRIS AND ROSE SHOW
WHEN: Today, open for viewing from 12.30pm
WHERE: Senior Citizen Rooms, Meara Place, Clifton ENJOY looking at some beautiful blooms at the Iris and Rose Show, held as part of Clifton Country Week. Entries will be accepted between 8am and 10am, with judging to take place between 10am and noon. Gold coin donation entry.
4. GEMFEST
WHEN: Today and tomorrow, 8am5pm
WHERE: Centenary Heights State High School hall
BROWSE a wide range of cut and uncut gemstones, jewellery, semiprecious gemstones, beads, pearls, fossils, opals, crystal and mineral specimens from all over the world at Gemfest Toowoomba.
There will be a fossicking trailer for children.
5. ORCHID SHOW
WHEN: Today and tomorrow, 8.30am-4pm
WHERE: St Paul’s Hall, Phillip St COME along to Toowoomba Orchid Society’s Summer Show and get all the tips on growing these beautiful blooms, admire some fine examples and pick up some plants at the sale table.
6. QUILT SHOW
WHEN: Today and tomorrow, 10am2pm
WHERE: FE Logan Hall, Tooth St, Clifton
COME and admire a beautiful display of quilts by Ida Burton and Lynne Moodie from QuiltsAlot Longarm Quilting Service.
Entry by donation with funds raised going to the Clifton Community Hospital.
7. ART SHOW FUN DAY
WHEN: Today, 10am-3pm
WHERE: Holy Name Primary School, Cnr West and Bridge Sts
THE whole family will love a day out at the Holy Name Art Show Fun Day. There will be heaps of rides, a jumping castle, magic show, pony rides, a visit from Batman, an art display, class stalls, show bags, classic car display and plenty more.
8. TAS TWILIGHT FETE
WHEN: Today, 2pm-7pm
WHERE: Toowoomba Anglican School, Campbell St TOOWOOMBA Anglican School P and F is holding a twilight fete. There will be carnival rides, petting zoo, pony rides as well as a busking competition, stalls, games and a barbecue.
9. POET’S BREAKFAST
WHEN: Tomorrow, 7.30am-9.30am WHERE: Highfields Pioneer Village, Wirraglen Rd
HIGHFIELDS Pioneer Village will play host to bush poet Wally Finch, who will entertain guests over a delicious breakfast.
Visitors will enjoy entertainment and a full cooked breakfast for $20, with children under 10 at half price and children under 5 free.
10. SENSORY MOVIE
WHEN: Tomorrow, 10.30am WHERE: BCC Grand Central Cinemas ENJOY a sensory friendly screening of The Angry Birds 2 Movie. Families living with autism and other sensory needs can enjoy films in a safe and accepting environment.
The lights are dimmed, sound is lowered and fire exits are monitored to make it comfortable for the whole family. Tickets are $6.
