TRC to look at servo

A NEW 24-hour service station has been proposed for the northern edge of Toowoomba.

Applicant Timon Pty Ltd submitted its plans for the new servo on the intersection of Ruthven and Gregory Sts in Harlaxton to the Toowoomba Regional Council.

An additional application has been made to build two advertising signs associated with its operations.

Based on the plans, cars would be able to enter and exit in one direction on Ruthven St, and both ways on Gregory St.

If approved, the new station would operate seven days a week to service traffic along the highly-used New England Highway.

“A detailed analysis addressing the proposals compliance with the relevant assessment benchmarks is provided herein,” Property Projects Australia’s James Juhasz wrote.

“This assessment concludes that, on balance, the proposal complies with the assessment benchmarks for the development and, therefore, the application is recommended for approval, subject to reasonable and relevant conditions.”

Mr Juhasz said the crossovers onto Gregory St would not be used by motorists to cut corners, also known as “rat running”.

“Aside from residents who live within the residential catchment to the east, Ruthven St will remain the most direct and effective route of travel for customers of the service station,” he wrote.

According to the attached traffic impact report by TTM Group, the station would have 170 vehicle movements a day, of which 20 per cent would be generated by its existence.

The site is currently improved by two residential houses and a commercial site, which would be demolished.

The applicant also included reports on engineering, air quality, noise impacts and stormwater.

The council has yet to respond.
