RUGBY: An impressive debut South West Sevens season has paid off for the under-15 Chinchilla Water Rats.

Two players, Chloe Ellem and Seraphina Dickman, from the team that finished runnersup to Fairholme, have been named in the Queensland

Reds U15 team.

Toowoomba’s Anna Dingley joins the pair in the side that will contest the national championships this weekend on the Sunshine Coast.

“Words can’t express what it means to be named in this team,” Ellem said.

“We (Chinchilla) only started rugby sevens this year so to have two us in the Queensland team is special.

“We went in as underdogs but we gave it everything we had in every game and had fun.

“It means a lot to us and to the community, we’re really looking forward to the chance to express what we’re all about.”

Traditional rivals New South Wales will no doubt be a threat at the championships but Ellem is confident the Reds will be competitive.

“We’ve been told they (NSW) might be a bit bigger than us,” she said.

“But we have lots of speed and play with good width so hopefully we go okay.”

Enjoying her first season of rugby Dickman is looking forward to the challenge ahead.

“Chloe (Ellem) asked me if I wanted to play and I thought why not,” Dickman said.

“I’ve played league but I really enjoy how fast rugby sevens is.

“I’m looking forward to the championships and I’ll be giving it everything I have.”

Toowoomba Bears player Taleah Ackland has also been named in the Reds side as a shadow player.
