World Series on the way

SPEEDWAY: Speedway Australia, the promoters of World Series Sprintcars, will welcome a World Series return to Toowoomba Speedway on January 5 as part of the Queensland leg of the series.

Racing will include Brisbane’s Archerfiel­d on January 4 and Maryboroug­h on the 7th before returning to Brisbane on January 10 and 11 for the Australian Open.

The compact 14-round series starts on Boxing Day in Murray Bridge, South Australia.

Sydney-born driver Brook Tatnell has confirmed he will be back in Australia and will do all 14 rounds.

Tatnell now lives in America where he races profession­ally.

He is a five-time Australian champion and holds the alltime record for feature wins in World Series Sprintcars with 77 wins.

He is the most successful driver in World Series Sprintcars history winning the series nine times.

He makes his long-awaited return home to Australia as a contracted driver this summer.

Tatnell will be driving the V55 for Mount Gambier based Scott Motorsport.

Regarded by many as one of the greats of Australian Sprintcar racing, Tatnell contested the inaugural series way back in 1987, which his father George won.

He finally secured his first series win in 1994/95.

Tatnell is also part of the only father-and-son combinatio­n to win a World Series Championsh­ip.

Tatnell’s father coupled together back-to-back titles in the 1980’s.

So far there are 10 contracted drivers for the 2019-20 series, including the Gold Coast’s Lockie McHugh driving for West Australian based John McLellan Racing and multiple Australian champion Kerry Madsen.

Other confirmed World Series participan­ts are Lucas

Wolf, Dave Murcott, Rusty Hickman, Glen Sutherland, James McFadden, Jock Goodyer and Jason Pryde.

They will take on the gruelling 14-night World Series Sprintcars schedule.

American Lucas Wolf who will be based in Brisbane is driving for Bruce Ayres.

The Pennsylvan­ian is a World of Outlaw feature winner will make his debut in this year’s series.
