Better to just do as one’s told

A 22-YEAR-OLD Toowoomba man found out the hard way that not co-operating with police only made matters worse.

Hayden Jake Lindberg was pulled over while driving on Holberton St, Newtown, on the night of November 1, Toowoomba Magistrates Court heard.

Refusing to get out of the car, police called for a back-up crew and eventually the 22year-old was dragged from the vehicle, handcuffed and taken to the Hume St police station watch house.

At the police station he was breath tested and returned a breath/alcohol reading of 0.152, police prosecutor Eddie Fraser told the court.

Lindberg pleaded guilty to charges of driving while under the influence of liquor and obstructing police.

His solicitor Amber Acreman, of David Burns Lawyers, told the court her client said he couldn’t remember refusing to get out of the car but he did recall being dragged from the car, handcuffed and put onto the car’s bonnet.

In that he had already suffered some summary justice, she said.

Her client was a concreter with a large construction firm who had been drinking for a couple of hours that evening and had been driving to get cigarettes, she said.

The 22-year-old had no criminal or traffic history at all and entered an early plea of guilty to the charges, Ms Acreman submitted.

Magistrate Lisa O’Neill fined Lindberg $750 and disqualified him from driving for the minimum nine months. The convictions were not recorded.
