WHY ROBERT AND DELSIA ARE TOWN PROUD

- ALEXIA AUSTIN alexia.austin@thechronicle.com.au

FOR TOWN Proud winners Robert and Delsia Kajewski,

The Chronicle has always been part of the family.

The couple, who have been subscribers to the paper for 51 years, pocketed $3000 after being named the winners of

The Chronicle’s Town Proud competition last week.

“We got a phone call (about the win) on Wednesday, and all I could say was “are you for real?”” Mr Kajewski said.

“I’ve always filled (the Town Proud entry forms) in before, you just don’t think anything about it.

“It’s a nice surprise coming into Christmas.”

Each year, the Town Proud competition helps support local businesses by encouraging shoppers to visit stores and buy local. The Kajewskis’ lucky entry was made with a spend at Betros Bros, a spot they have frequented for many years.

“We’ve always shopped with Mr Betros. It’s always been there and we find their prices comparable,” Mr Kajewski said.

“I believe it’s important to support local business, I do most of my shopping over at the Wilsonton shopping centre or at Clifford Gardens.”

“I like their bread for sandwiches,” Ms Kajewski said.

The pair moved to Toowoomba 51 years ago and have lived at the same Wilsonton address since then. They have watched on as the town, and the paper, have gone through many changes.

“There used to be cow paddocks (across the street) and you couldn’t walk through them to the shops,”

Mr Kajewski said.

“We’ve always had the paper. My mum and pop even got it when I was growing up in Goombungee. I like to do the Sudoku in it.”

The couple haven’t yet planned how they will spend their winnings.
