BUSHRANGERS READY TO ROLL
LAWN BOWLS: North Toowoomba Bushrangers will be eager to steal early points when they start their Queensland Premier League campaign at home next weekend.
At home to Enoggera Eagles and Helensvale Hawks, Bushrangers know home form will be vital.
“We have six games at home, and we’d love to give our supporters some thing to celebrate,” NTBC member Peter Rookas said.
“Enoggera will be a difficult, and Helensvale are a powerhouse with Queensland and Australian representative players in their squads.
“We’re ready though, our squad’s preparation has been short but intensive over the past two months.”
With the club needing to assemble teams for the QPL and its A-grade feeder division, Rookas said the recruitment net had been cast far and wide.
“Unfortunately when we lost the QPL playoff, we did lose some very talented players to other clubs,” Rookas said.
“We did try to bring them back into the fold after being invited to join the QPL following South Tweed’s withdrawal but understand they were already committed.
“However, we do believe we have assembled what will be a very competitive squad with a focus on putting local talent first.
“The selectors have down a great job and we know every player is completely committed.”
Bushrangers’ first matches will be on Saturday, January 11 from 2.30pm against Eagles before facing Hawks on the Sunday from 10am.
“The NTBC has achieved many outstanding goals in 2019,” NTBC acting chairman Rod Banks said.
“The board see the entry of the Bushrangers in the QPL as furthering the club’s reputation as one of the leading bowls clubs in south east Queensland.”
