Rockville prepare for season

FOOTBALL: Ramiz Hadzich doesn’t know how Rockville will line-up in 2020 – yet.

However, the coach is excited about the season ahead.

“The start of a new season is always an exciting time,” he said.

“Working with old players and welcoming new players, it’s great.

“We’ve been really hooking in. We started a little before Christmas, and we’re back at after a small break.”

Like every Toowoomba Football League squad, Rockville has experienced its fair share of player “ins and outs” so their pre-season focus has been split.

“Half our focus has been on fitness,” Hadzich said.

“The other has been working on a few different formations and trying to build some chemistry.

“The hard thing during the off-season is not knowing what type of players you’re going to get.

“Obviously you might not get the type of player you want to replace any you might have lost.

“But we are pretty happy with where we are at the moment.

“We haven’t really settled on a style of play or formation.

“We’re working on a few different formations at the moment, and we will use some of our trial games to get a better idea of which one might work best for us.”

Rockville, who finished fourth last season and lost in the first round of the finals, will head into the Premier Men’s competition without one of their stars from 2019.

“Veco (Serugo) is a massive loss for us,” Hadzich said.

“He leaves some pretty big shoes to fill, but we are happy to see him get his opportunity with the South West Queensland Thunder – it’s been something he has been striving toward for a long time.

“A few of the clubs have lost good players to the Thunder this season, but that’s a good thing.

“It’s pleasing to see our league is providing opportunities for players to prove themselves at another level.”

# Rockville train at Captain Cook Oval on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6.30pm and are welcoming players of all skill levels.
