New ALDI opens doors
SHOPPERS flocked to check out ALDI’s newest store in Torrington on its opening day yesterday.
Located at Bridge Street Plaza, the store opened its doors for the first time at 8.30am.
Glenvale resident Marjorie Williams said she’d been excited for weeks, and enjoyed her first shop at the new store.
“It was very good, we’re very happy,” Ms Williams said.
Oakey resident Belle Gay was also keen to check out the store on its opening day.
“We used to shop at the one in town. We’re from Oakey so this ALDI is heaps easier,” Ms Gay said.
“It’s really great, and really quick getting through even though it’s really busy. “They’re really friendly.” Ms Gay said she preferred shopping at ALDI over other supermarkets.
“It is a lot cheaper for us, we’re a family of four,” she said.
“We have two little kids and they eat a lot of fruit, and ALDI is a lot cheaper for fruit.”
ALDI Australia’s Queensland managing director Joanne Brown said the company was excited to open the new Toowoomba store.
“We offer a supermarket experience that is like no other in Australia,” Ms Brown said.
“It’s our differences that allow us to bring unbeatable value to our customers every day.”
Ms Brown said ALDI Torrington featured a number of recently introduced innovations that would offer an enhanced shopping experience for customers, with better product displays, improved navigation and a modern interior store design.
Some of the new features included redesigned shelving, expanded wooden produce bays, as well as energy efficient chillers.
Ms Brown said energy management remained a key priority for ALDI, and the store had installed energy efficient LED lighting.
“While we’re delighted to be introducing these innovations, we want our customers to know they won’t lead to higher prices,” Ms Brown said.
“We refuse to be beaten on price. This is our fundamental point of difference.”
ALDI Torrington will be supported by a team of 15-20 permanent full and part-time employees.
