Driver almost four times limit

A WOMAN who drove on despite crashing her car had returned a blood/alcohol reading of almost four times the legal limit after eventually being pulled over by police.

Evelyn Grace Doolin had driven on despite damaging her car when she crashed on a Westbrook St on the night of September 26, last year.

However, police caught up with her about midnight after her car crashed on Harrow St, Drayton, Toowoomba Magistrates Court heard.

When police arrived she was being treated by Queensland Ambulance Service officers, police prosecutor Nikola Prince told the court.

The 68-year-old had told police she had some three hours earlier had three glasses of vodka and orange juice, she said. Checks found that her driver’s licence had expired and Doolin told police she was aware of that and hadn’t renewed it as she would need a medical clearance before she could get another licence, Ms Prince said.

A sample of blood taken from her was later analysed and showed Doolin had a blood/alcohol level at the time of 0.188, the court heard.

The self-represented Doolin pleaded guilty to driving while under the influence of liquor and unlicensed driving.

No-one had been injured in the incidents, she said.

Magistrate Kay Ryan noted the pensioner had nothing of similar nature in her history since 2012.

Acknowledging the “very high reading”, Ms Ryan fined Doolin $1200 and disqualified her from holding or obtaining a driver’s licence for 12 months.
