Horses moved on
THE eight surviving horses found among 22 dead at a property near Toowoomba have been transferred to two different locations.
A Biosecurity Queensland spokesman said the horses had been deemed fit for travel by a vet and would be moved to two properties by the owner.
“The condition of the horses continues to be closely monitored by Biosecurity Queensland inspectors,” the spokesman said.
“The owner of the horses remains under a legal Animal Welfare Direction to ensure the care of the horses.”
Campaign manager for Animal Liberation Queensland, Amanda Holly, visited the property with permission from the owner while three of the horses were being loaded on a truck.
“They took the worst conditioned three and took them to a property near Minden,” Ms Holly said.
“I had a chat with him (the owner) and he said he was coming back and taking the other five to a property in Biloela.”
Ms Holly alleged when officers from Biosecurity Queensland arrived at the property they claimed she was not allowed to be there and the police were called.
“I then had to call the owner’s son and prove I had permission to be there,” Ms Holly said.
Ms Holly said she believed the condition of the five horses heading to Biloela had improved, but they were still skinny.
“One of the active racehorse is still very skinny, I would say her body condition would be one,” she said.
“The other two she went to Minden with obviously only had clearance to travel a short amount of kilometres.”
The horses were transferred in an open-topped cattle truck.
