Dietitian talks plant-based eating
WANT to learn to eat for better health and vitality?
Accredited practising dietitian and director of The Human Herbivore, Amanda Benham, will be in Toowoomba to talk on Healthy Eating the Vegan Way.
Ms Benham has been helping people adopt healthier plant-based eating patterns since 1992.
She is one of the growing number of doctors and nutrition scientists who maintain we should be eating food made from plants rather than animals or animal products.
She has been vegan since 1983 and raised her children on a vegan diet.
In recent years, there has been a surge in the number of people adopting plant-based diets out of concern for animals or the environment, or for health benefits.
Vegans In Toowoomba cofounder Renata Halpin said the event was in response to growing demand for information on plant-based eating.
“We only have to take a quick peek into our hospitals to see we are doing something terribly wrong with our diets.,” she said.
“It’s time to start looking after our health, and we are grateful to Amanda Benham for giving both her time and expertise to our community.”
Vegans in Toowoomba member Carly Middap said she had found Ms Benham’s workshops very beneficial.
“After attending one of Amanda’s workshops, I felt confident my family and I were approaching our plantbased diet well-informed as to how we can get all the nutrients we need,” she said.
“I can now answer the old ‘where do you get your protein?’ query confidently, as well as B12, iodine, selenium and everything to live a healthy, cruelty-free life.”
The Grassroots Chef will cater the event, providing vegan, gluten free, nutrient dense meals with a focus on local, unprocessed, chemical free food.
The event will be on at Toowoomba City Library, level three, on Wednesday, March 11 at 6pm.
Tickets are $15, including catering and are available via eventbrite.com.au.
