ENTRIES are open for the 2020 Toowoomba Biennial Emerging Artist Award and Exhibition.

Emerging artists from southern Queensland who are engaged in contemporary art practice can lodge applications by Sunday, June 7.

The Toowoomba Regional Art Gallery has facilitated the award and exhibition since 2000.

This project is an acquisitive award and exhibition, and a touring exhibition showcasing the work of emerging artists.

Up to $15,000 is available for acquisitions, with selected artworks to be included in the gallery’s Toowoomba City Collection.

The southern Queensland area, from the New South Wales border north to Bundaberg and west to Roma, is home to a diverse group of artists who are exploring new modes of practice, examining historical and cultural material and viewing the world from different perspectives.

This biennial exhibition seeks to bring together and celebrate artists in the region who have developed a clear area of interest in their art practice that is reflected in a strong body of work.

Artists’ works that are selected for the exhibition are eligible for acquisition and awarded works from the exhibition will be included in the 2021 Crates on Wheels tour.

Crates on Wheels is a Toowoomba Regional Art Gallery biennial touring initiative, connecting emerging artists with students in the Toowoomba region.

Artworks of all media will be considered, but the emphasis will be on works that are suitable for travel to, and display in, the school environment.

The exhibition will be on display at Toowoomba Regional Art Gallery from September 12 to October 25.
