Theatre outlines virus plan

-

THE Empire Theatre has announced what shows will go ahead and those that will not in response to the “rapidly changing situation associated with COVID-19”.

Australian favourite, The Sapphires, will be performed at the Empire Theatre tomorrow at 7.30pm as originally scheduled, albeit with an audience capped at 470 patrons.

Melinda Schneider – A Farewell to Doris will also proceed on Saturday, March 21 at 7.30pm.

Empire Theatres general manager Kerry Saul said patrons attending the performances would be encouraged to practice social distancing within the 1560 seat venue.

“We are facilitating this by allowing patrons to self-select their seating in the auditorium and move away from other patrons within the audience to ensure they feel comfortable,” Mr Saul said.

“Cleaning at the Empire Theatre has been increased in frequency, with our cleaning team sterilising all high touch areas regularly, both pre-show and post show.

“With all that said, however, if patrons are uncomfortable attending The Sapphires this week, we will be offering refunds on this occasion.”

The Curious Arts Festival, which includes a performance by Australian comedian Judith Lucy, has been postponed to a soon to be confirmed date later in the year.

The plan for future performances at the Empire Theatre has not yet been determined, and more information regarding upcoming performances will be released as it becomes available.
