AN ALLEGED would-be love triangle has left a Toowoomba man spending the night in the doghouse and the watch house.

Police claim the 34-year-old man had sent a text message to a woman friend of his de-facto wife.

After his partner’s friend construed the message to be one of him pursuing her for a relationship, she took a screen shot of the text message and sent it to the man’s partner.

An argument then ensued between the couple at their Newtown home on Wednesday night during which police allege the man threatened to kill the woman by throwing her down the stairs.

The man, who cannot be named due to domestic violence orders, was arrested and charged with breaching a domestic violence order.

He spent the night in the Toowoomba watch house before appearing in Toowoomba Magistrates Court yesterday where duty solicitor Nathan Bouchier, of Bouchier Khan Lawyers, made an application for bail on his behalf.

Mr Bouchier said his client could live with his mother in Rockville during the period of remand away from the aggrieved spouse.

The man was not required to enter any plea to the charge.

Police prosecutor Sergeant Tim Hutton said because of the alleged threats made, the watch house sergeant had refused to grant the accused bail but police did not object to him being granted bail.

Magistrate Damian Carroll granted the man bail on condition he have no contact with his partner and not attend her address.
