Construction tees off on retirement village
WORK is set to begin on retirement living project The Ninth Middle Ridge, after a soil turning ceremony yesterday.
Toowoomba Mayor Paul Antonio, alongside other guests, marked the start of construction on the new retirement village, which will be built within the Toowoomba Golf Club.
“I think this is a testament to the vibrancy in the Toowoomba economy,” Cr Antonio
said.
“What better place to retire if you’re a golfer than right next to the golf green.”
The new Aura Holdings development consists of 85 two, three and four-bedroom apartments with views of the parkland golf course.
“Both golfers and nongolfers will want to retire to such a beautiful, peaceful and green space,” Aura Holdings Director Tim Russell said.
“It really (will be) a fabulous location to live, on the picturesque escarpment of the Great Dividing Range with Toowoomba’s lifestyle benefits and sophisticated facilities nearby.”
McNab Construction has been appointed to the project with work expected to be completed in September 2021.
“We start work in the middle of June and the amazing bit for Toowoomba is it will be over 150 full-time jobs, at the peak of it, and up to 600 jobs in the whole calendar year, so it’s a great outcome for the Toowoomba economy,” McNab Construction CEO Michael McNab said.
“During the build we anticipate that The Ninth Middle
Ridge will contribute more than $30 million into the Toowoomba economy.”
The retirement village will be built adjacent to the golf course’s ninth hole.
“It’s been on the planning board for some time so we are excited to see it kick off,” Toowoomba Golf Club president Tim Davis said.
“It will blend in with our course very nicely and it won’t take over our landscape. It’s very cleverly designed on the perimeter with plenty of green space associated with it.”
