Red bench to bring awareness

ST Ursula’s College has unveiled an eye-catching addition at the school – a red bench which carries a message.

The bench, which was painted by students Abbie Rollans, Abbey Selman and Dahria Smith, is part of an initiative to draw awareness to domestic violence in the community.

“We wanted the bench to symbolise the support in our community,” Ms Smith said.

“So many women have experienced domestic violence – our whole community would be heart broken if we found out someone at school had gone through it.

“This is a way to remind people that we’re there for them and raise awareness of the issue.”

Red Rose Foundation board director Andrea Frost thanked the girls and staff for their contribution.

“Things like this bring education about DV out of the classroom and into the everyday,” Ms Frost said.
