Creative duo moves online
TWO Toowoomba women have launched their business online to meet the current buying patterns of their customers.
House of Marcella is the creative business of Erica Morgan and Marcella Cullin, who design and create unique jewellery from fine porcelain.
Both women lead busy lives as professional women and mothers, but being creative is a big love for both of them.
Marcella and Erica met through their children and soon discovered a shared passion for design, creativity and beauty.
This turned into get-togethers in Marcella’s home studio where lots of artistic playing evolved into a refined style of jewellery made from fine porcelain.
They make earrings, rings and brooches and every piece is completely handmade and totally one of its kind.
“When we began we had no expectation other than to be creative – we were just doing what we love,” Marcella said.
“The transition into our ‘House of Marcella’ style evolved very quickly and easily,” Erica added.
“It was surprising how connected our aesthetic is. We often come up with the same ideas without having discussed them.”
Marcella said each collection began with a concept and a mood board of ideas, colours, shapes and concepts.
“Each piece probably takes a few weeks to come to life as it moves through design, multiple kiln firings and decoration and assembly,” she said.
The women are drawing influence from the floral displays during carnival of flowers for their next collection.
“Local architectural features and flora are finding their way into our coming work,” Marcella said.
“We will also be seeing a glimpse of the ‘adorn your home’ range – adding homewares to our accessory range”.
House of Marcella jewellery is stocked in local and Brisbane retailers and the duo recently launched a website, enabling people to shop from home.
“We worked hard to get things online before Mother’s Day,” Erica said.
“The website also gives us a chance to share the story behind our work.
“The overarching narrative behind every collection is our story, two women sharing a dream, creative time and working together to achieve that.”
