Keep moving to keep healthy
Trainer urges us to reset resolutions
THE year 2020 has truly been unprecedented with COVID-19 casting a shadow over so many day-to-day activities.
Personal trainer Steve Roberts is now urging everyone to reset their New Year’s resolutions and restart their healthy lifestyles.
“Forgive yourself for not doing what you set out to do from a resolution perspective,” Mr Roberts said.
“Make it simple, like a 10 minute walk at lunchtime instead of sitting in the same spot looking at your phone.
“The biggest health struggles relate to a breakdown in social connection as setting and maintaining accountability motivates people to improve their health,” he said.
Member for Toowoomba South David Janetzki is hopeful the easing of restrictions will allow people to start focusing on exercise and movement to advance health and emotional wellbeing.
“We have faced significant challenges in 2020 and now as restrictions ease there is an opportunity to invest in our physical and mental health,” Mr Janetzki said.
“Gyms are reopening, local exercise groups are reconnecting and some local community sports clubs are recommencing fixtures.
“Although the seasons are significantly shorter, the camaraderie and social interaction is back and that’s a wonderful thing to see,” he said.
As a starting point Mr Roberts is urging people to find what works for them.
“Find a starting point, that could be seeing your GP for a health check, booking a health consultation with an exercise physiologist or take a health self-assessment to determine your health rating and readiness to change,” Mr Roberts said.
“We are all unique individuals with a brain unlike anyone else, it’s best to choose what you enjoy doing or eating (healthy) then build some practice, routine and variation into that,” he said.
