Man braves shave after hairy fundraiser
AFTER a year of growing his hair to raise funds for the homeless, Toowoomba man Stuart Moar reached his target on Thursday and finally underwent the big shave – much to the delight of his colleagues.
The YellowBridge Qld housing services program manager has raised more than $3000 during his “Homelessness is Hairy” campaign, which will go to youth accommodation facility, the Haven.
“I’m a little bit cooler than I was before – I’m looking forward to not having to do my hair,” Mr Moar said after the shave.
“Youth homelessness is a massive issue in Toowoomba at the moment, so having the Haven as part of YellowBridge has opened my eyes.
“Anything I can do to help the Haven staff or residents is good.”
Mr Moar doesn’t have a bare face yet – he will rock a mullet and moustache into next week, courtesy of Erin Flemming of Erin Louise Hair Artistry.
“Donations stalled a bit, so I wanted to encourage more to come in,” he said.
“I have a lot of friends who wanted to see me look ridiculous, so I said I would keep the mo and mullet if we reached $3000.”
His shave coincides with Homelessness Week this week.
YellowBridge CEO Penny Hamilton said the organisation, in conjunction with other support services, was hoping to end youth homelessness by 2024.
“We have around 128 of our young people on the streets every night, and we only have 11 beds to offer them,” Ms Hamilton said.
“We are on a mission to do something about this and are excited to have a team of passionate people behind it.”
