Senex says its fields show benefits of gas
SURAT Basin natural gas company Senex Energy’s projects near Roma and Wandoan demonstrate the benefits that the Federal Government’s plan to unlock new domestic supply can bring to regional Queensland.
Senex created 250 jobs, and $400 million has been invested in the company’s projects in the Surat Basin during the past 18 months.
More than 50 businesses in Toowoomba and the Surat Basin have benefited to the tune of $37 million because of that work.
The projects are now delivering much-needed gas to Queensland manufacturers, supporting manufacturing companies and the hundreds of people they employ in the State.
Atlas is the result of the Queensland Government dedicating the first natural gas acreage in Australia to supplying domestic customers, which include the cleaner energy power generator CleanCo Queensland, building products maker CSR and the beverage packaging company Orora.
The natural gas produced by Senex also supports the regional economy and generates royalties for the State Government to support roads, schools and hospitals.
The groundbreaking Atlas development, near Wandoan, is the first natural gas acreage in Australia dedicated to supplying domestic customers.
Managing director Ian Davies said further natural gas development would bring many more benefits to regional Queensland.
“We welcome the Federal Government’s announcements to unlock new domestic supply, and we are appreciative of the strong policy settings of successive Queensland Governments,” Mr Davies said.
“Senex has shown the benefits of balanced government policies and collaborative partnerships with manufacturers, suppliers and the communities we operate in.
“With their support, Senex invested $400 million in its Surat Basin projects, completing them in less than two years to supply critical gas resources for manufacturers.
“We continue to increase our gas production and have further expansion plans, helping to sustain hundreds of jobs and providing economic benefits to Queenslanders for decades to come.”
