A 21-YEAR-OLD man had been found with almost 2kg of cannabis just two months after a Toowoomba court released him on parole for having a similar amount of the drug.

Aaron Wayne McPhee had been sentenced in the District Court in Toowoomba to 12 months in jail, released immediately on parole, in April after pleading guilty to having 2.237kg of cannabis in his car when pulled over by police at Withcott.

He told police that he was just a “courier” and was transporting the drug for someone else, the court heard.

Just two months into that order and while also on parole for cannabis possession, police found 1.875kg packaged in four vacuum seal bags in the ceiling of McPhee’s home during a search on June 15.

Crown prosecutor Alysha Ballantyne told the court the cannabis found had an estimated market value of between $6800 and $16,000.

McPhee told police he had been storing the drug for someone else, she said.

McPhee appeared by video link from the prison where he is serving out his previous sentence to plead guilty to possessing cannabis above 500g.

His barrister Scott Lynch told the court this had been the first time his client had spent time in prison.

His client still enjoyed the support of his family and his father and sister were in court and had provided references for him, he said.

Judge Tony Rafter SC sentenced McPhee to nine months in jail to be served after his current sentence had completed but ordered he be eligible for parole from December 13.
