Debut win highlights our list

- JASON GIBBS & SEAN TEUMA

THE CHRONICLE was out and about at the weekend – looking out for the region’s top athletes and teams.

Here’s our latest top five.

DANIEL WEBER (FOOTBALL)

The St Albans front man is in electrifying form.

After scoring four goals last week, Weber added another two this week in his side’s 3-2 win over Stanthorpe United.

PIETER VAN DER KOOIJ (CRICKET)

If you had stocks in van der Kooij over the weekend, you’re collecting big time.

It started in the HardingMadsen Shield, where he hit 54 with the bat and took 3/34 in Met-Easts’ win over Diggers.

That was backed up for the Hip Pocket Rockets in the DDBBL, blasting 91 runs against the Aztecs and taking a wicket for good measure.

SHAUN MCCARTHY (CRICKET)

The reigning joint TCI player of the year showed why he is one of Toowoomba’s premier bowlers with a devastating spell at Captain Cook Reserve.

The Western Districts quick finished with figures of 8/16 from 10 overs to lift his side to victory over Northsiders.

He backed that up for the Rockets against the Blazers, taking 4/5 from 3.3 overs.

LINDSAY HATCH (RACING)

The Weetwood Handicap remained at Clifford Park, with Linday Hatch’s mare Jadentom claiming the Listed feature.

She was set for the event from a long way out, but faced a setback after drawing barrier 13.

That wasn’t an issue in the end, with Hatch and jockey Andrew Mallyon doing their homework to plot a path to victory.

ALASTAIR MCGORM (FOOTBALL)

The Willowburn midfielder played a key role in his side’s 4-0 win over Rockville at the weekend.

Mcgorm opened the scoring in the 30th minute of the game and doubled his total in the 53rd.
