Drug-fuelled road rage halts Toowoomba range traffic
POLICE arrested a 31-year-old Riverview man after he rammed a motorcyclist on Toowoomba Connection Rd, sending him perilously close to the escarpment edge.
The driver moved to the left of the bike and began to abuse the rider, opening his door and pushing the rider further to the right.
The man and his female passenger brought traffic to a standstill as they proceeded to abuse and assault their 29-year-old victim.
The brief, drug-fuelled altercation ended when the couple fled. But they didn’t get far. Police caught up with them in Laidley, where the man was charged with a raft of offences, including common assault, drugged driving and possessing drug utensils.
The incident comes as Toowoomba police close Operation Sierra Protect where they busted 183 motorists for drink driving, 190 for drugged driving, 1768 for speeding and 39 for using their mobile phone while behind the wheel.
A MOTORCYCLIST was left shaken after an angry driver pushed him off the Toowoomba Connection Rd, leading to a drug-fuelled road rage assault.
A 31-year-old Riverview man, driving a silver Ford Focus, rear-ended the motorcyclist heading down the Toowoomba Range, about 7am on Wednesday.
He pulled beside the motorcyclist, abused him and pushed him closer to the edge of the escarpment, a Queensland Police Service spokesman said.
The rider, a 29-year-old man, then made attempts to create distance and accelerated away from the man, but the Ford Focus caught up.
The male driver pulled in front of a bus, blocking traffic.
He and his female passenger exited their car and abused the motorcyclist, with the offender punching him in the head five times.
The pair fled the scene but were arrested at Laidley.
The man is charged with dangerous operation of a vehicle while adversely affected by an intoxicating substance, common assault in public place while adversely affected by an intoxicating substance, driving under the influence, driving without a licence and possessing drug utensils and will face the Ipswich Magistrates Court on November 11.
