Take time out for free World Environment Day event

-

WITH limited events happening around the region during the last few months,, residents will be pleased to know that this year’s World Environment Day event is going ahead at Lake Annand - and it’s free.

Toowoomba World Environment Day Committee secretary Neil Riethmuller said that having Toowoomba’s United Nations World Environment Day on Sunday November 1 will allow people to catch up on experiences missed during the Carnival of Flowers.

“Lake Annand Park is greening-up after the recent showers and warm weather, and is looking spectacular,” he said.

“Usually our free event is in the southern-hemisphere winter and the northern-hemisphere summer.

“So the COVID-19 pandemic has thrown up a rare chance to revel in the sunshine and see the fully-formed flowers and plants on display.”

World Environment Day offers the opportunity to stroll through the lake’s manicured grounds, enjoy the four children’s play areas, listen to live music in the gazebo, take in the information, feed the ducks, and sample the vegan and other foods on sale.

The centrepiece will be the children’s poster competition with entries on the theme “Biodiversity”.

Sanitising, contact tracing, social distancing and other anti-COVID-19 measures will be in place.

The day will be held at Lake Annand Park near the corner of Mackenzie and Long streets, Toowoomba from 10am to 4pm.

So, get the family together for a great outdoor event.
