Stamp club comp goes online
DESPITE not having had a club meeting since February, the Toowoomba Stamp Club (TSC) held its 12th annual Heritage Trophy competition as scheduled, on October 10.
This year the competition attracted a record number of entries, with the difference being that the competition was held entirely online.
Entries were scanned and displayed on the TSC website, which allowed the two Brisbane-based judges to adjudicate without needing to visit Toowoomba.
TSC believes this to be the first occasion in Australia where a recognised stamp competition has been held entirely online.
The winner of the Heritage Trophy for 2020 was John Graham, with a display of “Posthumous Proofs of the King George V Era”.
Runner up was club stalwart Bob Littlehales, with Rod Forrest taking third place.
Due to the number of favourable comments received, TSC intends to conduct future Heritage Trophy competitions in the same manner, although they also expect to be able to exhibit the entries at the regular TSC Stamp Day, as has been the case in the past.
Next year’s competition will be held in conjunction with the National One-Frame Exhibition, Toowoomba2021, to be held on October 8-9, 2021.
This will be another first for Toowoomba - the first time a regional Queensland centre will host a national stamp exhibition.
Toowoomba2021 will include many interstate dealers and the exhibition is expected to attract about 3000 pages of displays.
The 2020 entries can be seen on the TSC website, at www. toowoomba st a mpclub.org/htrop2020.htm.
