HUNTING THE KGB KILLERS History 130, 8.30pm
Alexander Litvinenko (pictured) was a former officer of the Russian FSB secret service who specialised in tackling organised crime. After being arrested on charges of exceeding the authority of his position – he publicly accused his superiors of an assassination – he fled to London, was granted asylum and ended up working for MI6 as a British agent. In 2006, Litvinenko was poisoned by radioactive polonium-201. It was dispensed in his tea in a London hotel and the case caused shockwaves around the world. This remarkable film charts the real-life story behind his shocking political murder and shows how the FSB nearly got away with murder.
