Boxers to offer help for brave fighter

- SEAN TEUMA

BOXING: When some of the region’s brightest boxers come together for Bring The Big Fights 27, they’ll have someone special in their corner.

The March 27 bouts will serve as a fundraiser for young Braxton Rayner, who has gone through more in his eight years than most.

The brave Dalby boy has endured a tough battle with brain tumours since he was 18months-old.

The support of Smithy’s Gym back in 2014 helped raise more than $100,000 to pay for surgery with renowned neurosurgeon Dr Charlie Teo.

This was able to remove most of the tumours, however they have again returned, resulting in constant trips from Dalby to Brisbane to visit a neurosurgeon.

It’s why Smithy’s TGW Gym’s Brendon Smith is again offering a helping hand to raise fund for the Raymer family.

“If we can help, to make any day a bit more comfortable, that’s what we’re here to do,” he said.

“We’re out there calling for help from everyone if they can contribute a little bit and help this family.

“Young Braxton has fought the fight from day dot. It’s not fair. A little fella like that shouldn’t be going through that, and nor should his family.”

Mother Kirsten Rayner said she is constantly amazed by the resilience of Braxton, and is calling for a neurosurgeon in Toowoomba.

“He is unstoppable. He never complains or asks why does this happen to him,” she said.

“He has a heart of gold and he really inspires us each day.

“We know and understand how important it is to have a neurosurgeon, so I am a huge believer that Toowoomba does need a neurosurgeon.”
