Bowling alley rolls in with a strike of a time
SUNSET Superbowl social bowling club, the Golden Oldies, is a weekly group for those aged 55 years and older.
Administration officer Clive Bently said the club is enjoyed more for the social aspects than who wins.
“It’s not really a competitive game,” he said.
“We come in here, play a couple of games and enjoy some light lunch afterwards.
“Instead of a formal competition, we hand out trophies to the players who are able to score 200 pins for the year.”
The Golden Oldies have been knocking down pins at Sunset Superbowl every Wednesday since 2006.
Mr Bentley said the four months the club couldn’t bowl last year due to the pandemic, was quite upsetting for its members.
“The Wednesday games provides us an opportunity to be able to catch up,” he explained.
“As you get older you don’t have as many people to talk too.”
Sunset Superbowl manager Raelene Croft said bowling was a fantastic way for retirees to be social and keep active.
“The best thing about bowling is that it’s quite an inclusive and accommodating sport,” she said.
“We have a lot of different weighted balls, which are suited for bowlers of different skill levels and physicality.”
Mrs Croft added that bowling was one of those activities that the whole family could enjoy.
“It’s a sport that grandparents can enjoy with every member of the family.”
Sunset Superbowl also holds more competitive games with its Bushbirds League at 9.30am on
Tuesdays and its womenonly Strikers League at 9.30am on Wednesdays for those more competitively inclined.
The bowling alley also offers a free trial day for the first session of bowls, to give people a glimpse into their leagues.
