Help needed after thieves trash vehicle
A SINGLE mum is struggling to make ends meet after thieves stole her car, took it for a joy ride and trashed it.
As a result, Lyn Birnie’s friend, Sue Reich, launched a GoFundMe campaign to raise money to repair the vehicle.
“My dear friend Lyn had her car stolen,” she said.
“It wasn’t insured, not because Lyn is irresponsible but because she is a single mum, working three jobs and saving every penny she can for a house deposit.
“This is after having multiple surgeries and health challenges last year.
“Lyn never complains and will always dust herself off and get back up.”
Sometime between late on April 6 and early on April 7 an unknown group of offenders forced entry to a home in Dylan Court in Darling Heights.
They stole a set of keys and attempted to take off with a car park in the garage but got stuck and fled on foot.
The offenders then entered two nearby homes, in Stenner St and Tony Court, stealing two vehicles from each residence.
They dumped one after a short joy ride while police lo
cated Ms Birnie’s black Rav4 on Friday in Danica Court. It was extensively damaged. “This one is a big knock and has left her at a great loss,” Ms Reich said.
“Lyn gives so much of herself, her resource, her time, and when she can, her finances.
“If you asked Lyn for her car, she would find a way to share it with you so you wouldn’t go without – she’s that kind of person.”
A silver Kia Sportage (930ZTI) and a black Nissan
Micra Hatch (834CQW) remain outstanding.
Ms Reich has set a goal of raising $5000 to replace or repair Ms Birnie’s car.
“If you have a few dollars to spare, please throw them Lyn’s way,” she said.
