The Chronicle’s top five weekend performances on the Downs

- SEAN TEUMA

IT WAS a huge weekend of sport across Toowoomba and the Darling Downs.

There were some top performances from our teams, clubs and individual athletes – here’s The Chronicle sports team’s top five performances.

BLAKE MARA (RUGBY LEAGUE)

As far as club debuts go, Valleys couldn’t have asked for much more from their star recruit.

Last seen playing with Dalby, Mara shone in the TRL’s grand final rematch, scoring two tries, setting up another and getting through a mountain of work in the middle.

WILL ORFORD (FOOTBALL)

Orford was certainly the man with the magic touch for the Thunder at the weekend.

His vision was pinpoint, linking twice with Wade Hall to set him up for a brace, and helping the team to bring home three points from Holland Park.

TANNAH HOOD (HOCKEY)

Goalkeepers across Toowoomba must be having nightmares about this young woman.

Tannah Hood’s impeccable form in front of goal continued in the first round of A1 hockey, as she netted a hat-trick for Rangeville in the team’s defeat of Newtown.

HAT TRICK HEROES (RUGBY UNION)

The Risdon Cup returned at the weekend with plenty of tries and attacking action.

Flanker Broc Turner scored a hat-trick for Dalby, a feat matched by Emus backrower Sam Tweedy in a weekend to remember for the forwards.

MADDY LOCKWOOD (FOOTBALL)

There’s good days at the office, and then there’s performances that will never be forgotten.

Maddy Lockwood scored seven, that’s right, seven goals at the weekend for Rockville against Highfields, taking her season tally to 14 from just four games.
