Salon raises funds for family

A TOOWOOMBA hair salon has raised $10,000 for a Highfields family who are heartbroken over their two-year-old daughter’s Leukaemia diagnosis.

Beautiful, bubbly Ellie Ross received the diagnosis of Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia in January, and her parents Karlie and Mason Ross have been coming to terms with their new life ever since.

Mrs Ross and Ellie have been in Brisbane for the past two months at the Queensland Children’s Hospital while Ellie undergoes chemotherapy and a range of operations due to other complications.

As well as dealing with every parent’s nightmare, the couple has to do it apart a majority of the time with Mr Ross needing to remain in Toowoomba during the working week to work and look after their son Leo.

Ellie’s grandmother Bec Swalwell works at Profile Hair Design, and together with the team there, they held a Bubble and Blowdries for Ellie event on Saturday.

The event was created for clients to enjoy a blowdry experience, while sipping delicious bubbles from The Rock as well as cookies and cakes from Sugar Flour Love.

There were also three raffles on offer during the day, with prizes donated from local businesses around town.

The sold-out event was a huge success with 35 women enjoying the day, and $1970 was raised through the blowdries and added styling extras.

The raffles also raised an additional $7350.

Profile Hair Design donated the remaining amount to reach $10,000.

Ms Swalwell said it was an emotional and overwhelming day.

“With treatment expected to last at least two years, the funds raised will ease the financial stress on Karlie and Mason,” she said.

“It was great to have the support of so many wonderful people as well as the greater Toowoomba community.”

All funds were donated directly to the Mason family to support them through the ongoing medical costs of Ellie’s treatment.
