Author: Jo Kasch Publisher: Allen and Unwin RRP: $24.99 Reviewer: Mary Ann Elliott For readers aged 5-8 years
JO Kasch is an award-winning Melbourne-based television writer and script editor, with a particular interest in television aimed at children and teens. Jonathan Bentley is the illustrator of more than 40 picture books (six of which he wrote), including Ella and the Ocean, Tales from a Tall Forest by Shaun Micallef and First Day by Andrew Daddo.
Kasch and Bentley make a brilliant creative team in this beautiful story about breaking down barriers and discovering the joys of friendship.
Mo lives alone and he likes it that way, until Crow comes into his small and tidy life offering friendship.
This gorgeous picture book brings a powerful message, showing the advantages of opening oneself up to new friends and experiences.
The use of rhythm and repetitive words like, oh, go, and crow helps children develop their reading skills. The big-print text is enhanced by lively colourful pictures that vividly capture the characters as well as the movement of the wind and trees.
The message is, let’s take chances and let the unknown in.
