Flag at half mast

-

IT was interesting to read Cr Carol Taylor’s comments after someone challenged the TRC on Facebook regarding the flag at Picnic Point, asking why it wasn’t at half mast in recognition of the death of the Duke of Edinburgh.

A pretty weak excuse when she said, “It was vandalised some time ago and it will only operate up or down not half way”.

Now the first week it was installed, somebody or someone stole the flag, how they got up there I don’t know because the mechanism is inside the column.

However at the time TRC offered a $10,000 reward for the return of the flag, no one came forward and nothing else was said.

Now I would think the flag and its workings would have been insured against vandalism etc. So why isn’t it fixed?

Andrew Peacock has just died, a statesman in some circles, however the flag should be lowered in recognition, or we might as well not have one. WILLIAM MEADOWCROFT, Toowoomba
