In this season of Grand Designs Australia, host Peter Maddison follows eight new homeowners, who all have a vision to change their lives and Australia’s architectural landscape forever. In tonight’s episode, Maddison meets Perth couple Angelo and Kasi who are obsessed with concrete, particularly in 1950s Brutalist architecture, otherwise known as the ‘ugly duckling’ of design. While brutalism’s monolithic and blocky forms are the opposite of the Mediterranean-style homes of the couple’s childhoods, they’re determined to create something out of the box. Of course, nothing ever goes to plan in this award-winning series and the ambitious couple’s first surprise is delivered from their very own architect.
