Region’s coolest morning of 2021

-

A WARM change is expected in the coming days after Darling Downs residents woke to the coolest morning of the year.

A cool -2.7 degrees was recorded at the Southern Downs town of Applethorpe on Monday morning, while Roma dropped to -2.4 degrees.

Bureau of Meteorology’s Matt Marshall said residents across the Downs and Queensland could expect a warmer change in the coming days.

“Overnight temperatures will gradually increase over the next couple of days to be closer to the May average,” Mr Marshall said.

Most of Queensland felt the cool change on Monday, which was caused by a cooler dry air mass extending from the southern border right to the far north.

“We’re under the influence of a high pressure system, it’s really clearing the skies up there’s not a shred of cloud to be seen and that basically allows more heat to escape the air when the sun is down,” Mr Marshall said.

In Toowoomba, the morning temperature dropped to a low of 3.5 degrees, and -0.7C at Wellcamp.
