How to make your holiday memories last forever

-

That perfect shot of the sunrise over Uluru, say, or the contrast of blue water against white walls on the Greek Islands – they’re images of our happiest holidays. And with restricted travel keeping us at home, now is the perfect time to keep the travel dream alive by preserving your holiday memories forever.

Savvy tip 1

Backing up your photos and videos is a good first step. Online storage platforms such as Google Drive, Dropbox and iCloud are the easiest and cheapest options. You get 5GB of iCloud storage for free or upgrade to 2TB for $14.99 a month.

Savvy tip 2

Nothing says travel like a world map. Turn your travels into an artwork with a world map on canvas for your wall. Personalise it with thumb tacks on places you’ve visited. Blue Horizon Prints has a 686x457mm world map on stretched canvas for $138. A cheaper option is a scratch map, which allows you to reveal the places you have visited by peeling off foil. Try australiangeographic.com.au for scratch maps from $23.99.

Savvy tip 3

Go old-school and print photos to create a wall collage. Officeworks, Big W and Harvey Norman do 4x6 prints from 10 cents each. Display them in collage frames. Kmart has eight-print frames from $15 and Spotlight has 10-print frames from $30 (and a buy three get one free offer).

Savvy tip 4

Collecting travel prints in a bound photo book you create online is the modern-day photo album. They vary in price. Snapfish.com.au does a softcover 13x18cm book from $11.95 or hardcover from $32.95. Photobookaustralia.com.au has a 40-page photo book for $49.45, down from $89.90, with a variety of themes and templates to choose from.

Savvy tip 5

Go digital by creating a travel journal using an app. Day One and Journo Travel Journal and Blog allow you to match text entries with photos and videos for free, with premium upgrades from $5.99 a month.
