WIN TICKETS TO TOOWOOMBA’S NRL GAME

- TOM GILLESPIE

TOOWOOMBA’s pubs are preparing for a bumper weekend of trading as the city catches footy fever ahead of this Sunday’s NRL match.

With more than 6000 tickets already sold to the game between the Roosters and the Dragons, Fitzy’s Toowoomba general manager Brad Fitzgibbons said the hospitality sector was hoping for a much-needed boost from the event.

“It’s an amazing thing for town — it’s not every day you get two NRL teams to play at a local stadium for locals to come and watch their superstars,” he said.

“From a hospitality and accommodation perspective and general customer trade point of view, I think there will be a lot of people out and about.

“We always offer live entertainment on a Sunday, but on top of that we’re expecting a busy lunch and dinner period.

“The venues around town are all gearing for the increased numbers, and we look forward to accommodating patrons well into the evening.”

Along with attracting tourists to town for a fun weekend, Mr Fitzgibbons said he was hoping the game would also get locals out on the town.

“We know for a fact that a lot of our customers travel regularly to see the Broncos or Reds, so I don’t see any reason why they wouldn’t do the same thing

here,” he said.

“It generates so much excitement, it’s a real opportunity for Toowoomba to showcase to the NRL and other codes to see

what sort of event we put on.”
